U.S. NAVY SUPERVISOR OF
SALVAGE
SELECTS CTFM SONAR ......
EL CAJON,
CALIFORNIA. Sunwest
Technologies, Inc. announced it has orders for five of
its new Super Search CTFM (Continuous Transmission Frequency
Modulated) Sonars – the SS300. The
sonar will replace early CTFM systems that have been in service on U.S.
Navy Supervisor of Salvage and Diving DEEP DRONE ROV for over
twenty years. Others will
be installed on Oceaneering’s MAGNUM ROVs.
Sunwest
is staffed with engineers who pioneered the development and use of CTFM
sonar which became standard equipment for ROVs and manned submersibles,
and has often been used to locate the
“black boxes” of
downed aircraft. Primary
applications include use as a search, navigation and obstacle avoidance
sonar, gap filler between side scan sonar
beams, harbor surveillance and protection of ships at anchor in hostile
areas.
The
all new digital CTFM provides for fast azimuth scan of at least 360 deg
in twelve seconds, a tunable 20 – 50 kHz beacon receive mode, and
range up to 1000 meters. Operating under Windows NT, the SS300 will interface with any
fiber optic or copper umbilical conductor.
Sunwest reports wide-spread acceptance and has initiated a
production run to meet growing demand.
